Hey, Birdies. We have noticed that the terms cross-chain / multi-chain has been bandied about pretty often these days. Since we have envisioned ourselves as ultimately being chain agnostic, we thought it would be great to explain to our flock more about the next chain we will be building on and what this means for us.
What is Cardano (ADA)?
Cardano is a proof-of-stake (POS) blockchain platform that uses Ouroboros, the first peer-reviewed, verifiably secure blockchain protocol. Ouroboros enables the Cardano network’s decentralization and allows it to sustainably scale to global requirements without, crucially, compromising security. Bitcoin is considered a 1st generation blockchain, followed by Ethereum which is 2nd generation, and now comes Cardano, 3rd generation blockchain to ease the pain points of the previous generations. Cardano is engineered to solve the fundamental challenges of existing blockchains. Efficiency, scalability, and sustainability.
Cardano has five phases in its roadmap:
- Byron era (Foundation)
- Shelley era (Decentralization)
- Goguen era (Smart contracts)
- Basho era (Scaling)
- Voltaire (Governance “final piece in the puzzle”)
What we want to focus on today is the smart contract aspect of Cardano which would enable us to integrate on their blockchain and start gaining access to all the benefits of Cardano.
“But Birdie, who or what are Byron, Shelley, Goguen, etc? Who are all these people? I just want to know about Cardano”
If you hear about Cardano through tweets and similar notifications, I am sure this is one of the questions running through your mind. Calm down birdies. The good people behind Cardano are avid researchers and their nomenclature is a representation of the team’s deep insights into the roots of history and people who have brought us to where we currently are. What we are most excited about for now is the Goguen era. This is where the ability to build DApps comes in. One of the goals for the Goguen era has been the creation of Plutus, a purpose-built smart contract development language and execution platform. This would open up massive avenues. Namely, transitioning of DApps from legacy blockchains and a use case for Cardano’s token (ADA), which has so far been a pool of idle on-chain liquidity (This is huge BTW).
Well that’s enough chirping about Cardano. Let’s see how that plays into SuperLauncher’s plans.
SuperLauncher X Cardano
We knew from the very beginning that we did not want to be a launchpad constrained to just 1 blockchain. As the cryptoverse innovates, so do we Birdies. Right now we are on the Binance Smart Chain. Two reasons for that, speed and cost (for us and for our flock). Why Cardano then?
The limitless potential that Cardano brings to the decentralized ecosystem is too big to ignore. We want to position ourselves to take advantage of all that Cardano as a blockchain has to offer. This will most importantly benefit our flock.
At the end of the Shelly era, Cardano expects to be 50–100 times more decentralized than other large blockchain networks, with the incentives scheme designed to reach equilibrium around 1,000 stake pools. This is what first turned our heads towards Cardano as it is in line with our aim of true decentralization.
What the Goguen era does for us and for projects that have yet to be built, in particular, is that it makes Cardano accessible to wider audiences. The Marlowe playground which is built on Plutus is an easy-to-use application-building platform that non-programmers can use to build financial smart contracts. This simplifies the process of creating smart contracts, allowing anyone to build without requiring deep programming skills. Cardano is attempting to bring smart contracts to the masses while we attempt to bring IDO participation to the masses. A match truly made in birdie heaven.
The Basho era is when things start to make us flap our wings with even more excitement. One of the core developments of Basho will be the introduction of sidechains: new blockchains, interoperable with the main Cardano chain, with immense potential to extend the capabilities of the network. This would essentially allow projects that are not built on Cardano to tap on the benefits of the Cardano network if they so wish by building on a sidechain to connect with the main network. Cross-chain ✔️ Multi-chain ✔️
Now for the final piece in the puzzle. Governance. The Voltaire era will provide the final pieces required for the Cardano network to become a self-sustaining system. For true decentralization, governance is a must. Ultimately, just like Cardano, SuperLauncher aims for true decentralization. Ou flock needs to decide the path we take. There is no King Hawk to tell us what to do. As a flock, we fly together and governance will be the bond that holds us as we soar to the moon.
SuperLauncher is super excited about the developments ongoing in Cardano and we cannot wait to integrate ourselves into their network. As soon as they are ready, we will be all set for takeoff birdies. Cardano, we hope you are ready for a mighty flock of birdies at your doorstep. You have been warned.
